John Donne was metaphysical,
Will Shakespeare dramaturgic
and William Wordsworth lyrical.
I can't say I'm allergic
to modes like that but when I write
of you I'm more prosaic;
your metaphysics don't excite
me, belle dame, lady laic,
dramatic, less, my love, than mellow,
so I will trill you treats
not wordy like that Wordsworth fellow,
but lyrical as Keats.
