Poor Sight Poem by Orlando Belo

Poor Sight

My vision is not what it used to be.
and my next step could be my last.
Going down steps is my problem.
Why doesn't each step contrast?

The vertical step should be chequered
and the horizontal black, then white.
The contrast is important to poor vision,
during the day, but more so at night.
