Prisoner Of War Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Prisoner Of War

Prisoner of war

I was part of 1971 war
The war clouds were not over
India wanted eastern front very secured
Sam was called in and apprised

India was open on two fronts
Ready to bear full war brunt
Pakistan raided cities simultaneously
India geared up with might immediately

No time was given to recoup
The priority remained on top
The war must be over before other powers interfered
The reward was definitely inferred

Pakistan lost eastern wing
Prisoners of war was alarm to ring
Sam Manekshaw and other generals served their cause
The hostility was now on pause

We complied with full Geneva Convention clauses
The soldiers were handed over with peace
It is unfortunate we are bleeding today for that gesture
But one thing of total isolation of that country was assured
