Rape Of Self Poem by Samantha McKinnon

Rape Of Self

I feel you pull at my feet
And extract the warmth from me
The cold sweeps through my body
And envelopes my breath
You manifest beside me, behind me,
Everywhere I can see,
And especially where I can't
I watch as you grip my hand, feeling
The familiarity of it
As you flood back towards me
Clutching and crushing my face
Shaking me back and forth
My brain ricochets
As my neck cracks
With each surge of rage
Suddenly you retreat and crawl
Back inside me
Leaving me concussed and repercussed
No matter how hard I try to will you away
I always find a reason to let you
Stay.
