Reach For The Stars Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

The brightest star in the sky
Is out shone by the dullest light in the street
Our eyes have stopped looking above
And fantasize about what is below.

The closer you are to the star in the sky
The more breathtaking it is
The closer you are to the light in the street
The more of its beauty is lost.

Why have the stars descended to the ground?
They are now below us
And now there’s no reason to reach for the stars.

But then I still see
A star in my sky
They are still there;
Still in the night
Because they don’t need to shine
Brighter than a street light.
