Reality Check Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Reality Check

People protest.
Claiming to be upset.
By what is or what is not,
Appropriate to be taught...
To their school age children.
Who are unprepared to listen.
Lack respect and discipline.
Yet...
Confront parents do,
School administers.
Security guards and janitors.
About who is corrupting,
The minds of their children.
With such outrageous,
Intolerable reflections of a society.
They wish kept away...
From the eyes and ears,
Of these innocent looking kids.

Everyday, somewhere and in some way,
Pretentiousness is on full display.

The innocent minds of their children?

The ones spoiled and taught,
Long before they are able to walk and talk,
Which videos to watch others...
Being maimed and killed.
These innocent children.
Exposed to:
Decadence and the meaning of illicit sex.
Physical, mental and domestic abuse.
Those who cheat and lie and deny it.
To then pack with them hidden weapons.
Making announcements,
In front of their classmates.
On a daily basis,
Not in college but in elementary schools.
What it is they don't like about the teacher.
Their looks and the way they act.
As if they are somebody's boss.

These are the activities,
Today's children bring to schools.
That absentee parents,
Who are unaccountable or held responsible...
For allowing their children to 'think',
Attacking anyone gives them the right to do.

And these are the children,
Being groomed...
To lead society to a brighter future?

More than just mental therapy is needed.
For an entire society,
Fantasized on fiction, materialism and greed.
And running away as if being threatened,
By a severely overdue reality check!
Promising to eliminate delusions permanently.
