Rebuilding Outdated Facades Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Rebuilding Outdated Facades

One's opinion to voice it,
Is a recognizable freedom.
Given as an entitlement.
In a democracy that allows,
This activity to choose.
As a birthright to use.

However...
In a democracy to perceive,
One is entitled...
To voice their opinion,
Publicly using a megaphone.
With an announcing to make,
Lies told to deceive...
People to believe,
That democracy should be...
Seiged.
Set to flames!
Because of an opinion voiced,
Has placed a blame to claim...
The ones who have rights,
To do as they please and like.
Has found the face,
Of that democracy changed.
To more represent a diversity.
And truth,
Of how that democracy is.
Without a fictional image.
Symbolized,
With pretensions removed.
Should prove,
Who it is...
Given the attention to permit,
A creating of division, conflicts.
Chaos and racial tension.
To satisfy their wish,
Of a burning down...
An entire neighborhood.
That had stepped,
Quickly to advance...
Into a future enhanced.
As if the doing,
Had innocent intentions.
Yet...
Wanted it mentioned,
Who different...
Had been selected.
To rebuild that neighborhood.
And all that it had,
From a dying past.
With an updating,
Of an aging and long rusted...
Fading facades!
One who reminisces.
With wishes to remain.
As if the doing would offend,
Ancestors who once travelled...
In horse drawn,
Covered wagons!
