Religion Poem by Harlan Simantel

Religion

meant to free
it often binds
better eyes to see
it makes its boast
yet it often blinds

supposed to heal
it makes many ill
touted to give life
the result more often
is inner and outer strife

full of promises
it's questionable how many
it really blesses
i walk away a damaged soul
in clearing my mind
i hope to be whole

jesus came to free
the way i always hope to be
