Remember Man Poem by Alex Koonthanam

Remember Man

Remember man that you're strife-torn
Right from the moment you were born!
The blessing upon others poured
Has not destiny for you stored.

Remember man that heavier strife
Awaits you at every bend of life
Forward! forget the wound and scar
The clouds won't forever hide the star.

Remember man that ne'er the scroll
Shall be rewrit to suit your soul;
The master artist's omniscient plan
Far outstretches your transient span.

Remember man, writings in the scroll
In existence precede your soul
But that writ in the book of life
Is how you brave the trial and strife.

Remember man ne'er any protest
Can shield your soul from heavy test
The cruel blows falling on your soul
Is just the writing in the scroll.

Remember man, shedding useless tears
Shall ne'er ope the tight shut ears
Your agonising heart's bewail
'Fore cruel destiny of no 'vail.

Remember man, hands that bludgeon wield
Shall never before your tears yield;
Ward off the blows with your own shield
Wounded, still be fighting in the field!

Remember man never the wand
Waver for you in fortune's hand
The frown of cruel destiny
Transformed to smile shall never be.

Remember man, never with sorrow
This your chalice shall overflow
Always added to its content
In dripping drops or pouring torrent

Remember man, the lesson life
Writ so sharp in your book of strife
Remember well, and further blows
Your soul can ward off as its way it goes.

Remember man, ne'er on anyone
Place your trust than on self you can
Recall the heartbreaks of the past
That of yesterday be the last.

Remember man that your mission -
Else one has not self-same vision -
Insignificant though it might seem
Yet fulfill the way best you deem

Remember man, rougher the road
Beyond the bend, heavier the load
That on your weary shoulders weigh
Hold on, or end or End is nigh!

Remember man, on some morrow
Your soul'll flee past pain and sorrow
No blows no strikes beyond the grave
Menacingly rise your soul to brave.

Remember man that when you'll hear
The trumpet's summon draws you near
You'll know it'll soon fly by: the strife
Battle, sun and storm and too life.

Remember man then that respite sought
At last to your by angels brought
The wounds and pain, the fears and tears
Never assail you in heavenly spheres.
