Requiescat Mother Poem by Alexandro Johns

Requiescat Mother

After dressed
by her sister Josephine and Gloria
I entered to behold her,
she was put on the tiles
in the basement of the hospital,
the place of cold light, white and black
seemed an engraving by Dore.

They didn't hint my help
for that task,
women's work -I thought-
or perhaps they didn't want
inside my eyes her bareness.

With a blue skirt
and blouse of amaranth
her corpse was sealing
the door of the days
that she shared with me.

I felt invaded by her absence,
a few hours earlier
I had given the consent
for connect her to death,
so she was released
from the delta
of broken arteries
where ended the flow
her life of woman
condemned to love me
ever since she was
seventeen years old.

I tilted to kiss her,
in my lips
forever
she let me
the eternal ice of her forehead.

A very poignant and an intense writing about freeing someone from pains. Thanks for sharing
