Roentgenium Poem by Ouch G. Hetrick

Roentgenium

All my friends showed me what
disintigrated them;
showed me what would happen
when far off distances of blood
trail your grave.

I cried upon my relatives.
They break off in a pattern, losing
them all in the woods.
Once the stones cover their shame,
I will feel them in the earth alone.

All the strangers, the rest from the
disaster, walk limp and cry.
I can tell their death's hour
but I also fear my own.

All living matter cannot escape
the radioactive waves.
Inches and seconds flood inside
the cracks as a curse.

Forever they spread in my brain,
and who knows when they'll
strangle my body and choke me.

Far off distances of blood
would trail every grave.
The ashes in the air would join with me.
As the souls go down in flames,
I wrench at the feeling that
my time will come.
I don't want to be under the earth,
alone.

All hope for life is null.
Will you tell me to go fight
for what young men are dying of?
Then what is democracy?

It doesn't matter yet.
The hazardous clouds poison me.
They will soon dissolve me,
faster and faster.

I became later that living example
of what happens when that blood,
from a far distance,
trails that painful path
to my grave, that hallowed destruction.
