Another old black woman passed away,
that happens almost every day,
- - - yet, this one lies in state,
- - - in the rotunda of the Capitol,
- - - of The United States!
Anyone would have been a fool,
to do what made her famous,
Well, she was foolish just enough,
to start a revolution by sitting where she was!
She was hailed as a heroine,
for simply staying put,
- - - at the right place,
- - - at the right time,
- - - in exactly the right city,
- - - and on exactly the right bus!
Her little spark would soon ignite,
a scorching flame of right,
that burned through a society,
that never seems to quite,
get past that past stupidity!

Bravo! ! Terrific poem Barry! God bless the dear woman for having courage to stand her ground and be a leader! ! Hugs, Dee
Excellent write Barry, I wish there wasn't a past stupidity to get past. I must have been born at the right time or into the right family because I was taught that a persons heritage is something to be proud of...all persons! ! But since back then this was not the case, thank God for Rosa standing up by sitting still! All the best, Diane

Barry - Rosa was my kind of heroine, the Rosa Parks museum is across the street from my grant writing office, another one of my hobbies. I love this poem! Cheryl
