Rose One From The Crowd And Asked: Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Rose One From The Crowd And Asked:

Rose one from the Crowd and asked:
Why is our planet not cosmopolitan?
And the Prophet said:
Because the earth has States
Because of the Doctrine of Sovereignty of the State
Because of the Ego in the One
Because of the Ego in the One transposed in to the others
Because each State is tied up to its boundaries
Because a State - worse - wills to extend its boundaries
Because the State make its own laws
Because international laws are still deaf broadly speaking
Because man hears to his appetite
Because of political leaders
Because of politics that will not be reformed
Because of other things deriving from the above
Because the people of this planet do not rise
And say: Away with the Past!
Cosmopolitan we be, shall be, without the need of flags.
Nor shall the national anthems play
Nor colour, dress or other distinctive trait
And too instead of so many national tongues and dialects
One national tongue shall we have - the Cosmopolitan!
