Science Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Science

Boys and girls?
Today I challenge you,
To use your imagination.
And I know the task for some,
Maybe difficult.
But all I ask,
Is to do your best and 'try'. Okay?

Let's pretend,
The Earth we live upon...
Rotates. Spins.
Doing this done mysteriously.
To then...
Orbit around the Sun.
And...
Also seen when nightime comes,
A Moon. Beaming to glow.
When daylight goes.

Now...
Let's then pretend,
Many centuries ago...
Those observing this,
Began to call this phenomenon...
Science.
And they discovered this 'mystery',
Had an effect on all that inhabited...
The Earth.
The air we breathe assisted by the trees.
Providing the reality of our existence.

Let us now pretend,
There is a virus.
A virus so clever,
To create a Worldwide spreading pandemic.
And this pandemic is not a joke.
Yet...
There are some folks,
In leadership positions making decisions.
Having no experience in science at all.
Although...
Wish to want everyone to believe,
What has been observed by scientists.
For centuries and beyond.
We should ignore as just a myth.
Even though the facts disputes their delusions.

Boys and girls?
Uh...BOYS and GIRLS?
BOYS...
AND GIRLS!
WAKE UP! !
Has anyone been paying,
Any ATTENTION! ?
To this task I asked for you all to imagine?

"I have."

Thank God.
At least one of you is listening.
So...
What did you experience?
What did you come to realize?

"If the scientists created the Earth.
Who created the visual effects?
And where was God during all of this?
You didn't mention Moses at all.
Which episode did he write and direct?
And...
When Noah built that big boat,
With all those animals on it.
Who hired those immigrants to clean it up?
Taking all our jobs away.
Causing today's economic crisis! "

You misunderstood completely,
What this challenge to use your imagination...
Was all about.

"No.
I did not.
The president has already convinced most of us,
All this talk about 'science'...
Is a hoax.
And those people we see on TV?
They are overpaid actors.
Attempting to keep him from being re-elected.
And that's why parents everywhere are protesting.
There is nothing you can say,
To have us imagine something else is happening.
And 'science' is nothing more than a distraction!
We know that.
We haven't been out of school that long."
