Natures Lead
Fold upon fold of vibrant white wings cluster together
Backs to the chilling wind, defeating the weather
Early Angels of spring they bring warmth to the heart
Disempowering the darkness of winter, tearing it apart
The Snowdropp – early spring
Flocks of blue hooded soldiers smother the ground
Saluting the trees, not uttering a sound
A tiptoe path through the sea of blue, leads the way
To a promise of summer, and time to make hay
The Bluebell – late spring
Lofty bells peel out witches potions, passing bees fall willing victims
Trumpets hide their naughty lotions, tempting hedonistic potions
Foxes frolic amidst the meadows, chasing tails and kissing fellows
Danger signs, don’t be fooled, snap not those heads, the Vixen bellows
The Foxglove – early summer
Born to survive and not disappoint
This woody little charmer will anoint
The senses of passing fauna with its tempting nectar
It’s victims fall drunken at the feet of the victor
Verbena – late summer
Charming swathes of vibrant colours swirl and spin
Dancing and hustling, competing to win
Plumes of joy climb walls and shutters
Long may they live, the household utters
Clematis – early autumn
Thrusting and jutting their scarlet javelins at the face of winter
Provocative and brave they foolishy splinter
The first strikes of chill and the soft whispers of frost
Are the first symptoms of winter, ignore at your cost
Salvia – late autumn
Slashes of red light up the hedges
Chaffinch and robins sit tight on their ledges
No-where to hide its partners lay bare
Shadowed by its radiance, they can only just stare
Red stemmed Dogwood – early winter
Tiny pink hearts cling to the wing
Here they will stay till the dawn of the spring
Betrayed only by their sweet perfume
There they perform, sweet fruits of the loom
Wintersweet – late winter
