Second Chance Poem by karin collins

Second Chance

Second Chance

I wish I knew what to believe,
To learn the truth and not deceive.
But you have told so many lies,
It’s oddly you I now despise.

It could have been an easy thing,
We said “I do” and gave the ring.
But somewhere lost along the line,
You forgot that you were mine.

Your vision changed you let it die,
You claimed our marriage was a lie.
Now lawyers sing our battle song,
With who gets what until it’s gone.

The children cry themselves to sleep,
The nightmares come- the scars are deep.
It’s not just me but they lose too,
‘Cause you can only think of you.

You can’t ignore or sell or trade,
A family that you freely made.
We are yours to have and love,
Till Heaven comes from up above.

To take us all in God’s good grace,
And you must look upon His face.
You’ll have to say the reason why,
You promised love then said “Goodbye”

Then you will witness something new,
The tearing of His heart in two.
He won’t claim to understand,
But He will gently take your hand.

“My son, it’s all been smoke and mirrors.
Your family is what’s really dear.
And it’s not what you do or say,
That matters on this reckoning day.”

“The family I have given you,
Is what should matter most to you.
And all I see is shame and doubt,
Not what family is about.”

Then He will want you to repent
And back to earth you will be sent.
A second chance to make it right,
To take it back, to win the fight.

Don’t let it go, this lesson learned,
We can’t be bought, we must be earned.
But know that we, as He above,
Will always welcome you with love.
