Why was I thrust into this world
Ignorant, innocent of what lay ahead?
Could there be no warning note
No sound, no whisper,
No soothing melody to sing or hum?
Silently went my passage
From perpetual dark
Out into the light of life
Beyond all reason,
Beyond what was known to me
I came into the earth’s embrace.
There were sounds of screaming
And endless noise that would not stop
And helpless I lay—among a sea of bodies
Screaming, yelling, helpless…
How far I’ve come,
Yet still I remain
Amongst ignorant shouts and screams
Screams of the masses, of those like me
Who were thrust into this world
Innocent and ignorant of what lay ahead
After September 30,1946.
