Shall I, Shall You? Poem by Edwina Reizer

Shall I, Shall You?

Shall I take the words
that come from your lips
and let them fill my days?
Or shall I leave them
and be on my way,
forgetting how to praise

everything I love of you,
everything that words can do,
everything I need from you,
everything that can't come true.

Shall you never say
these words again
and allow them to die unheard?
Or shall you let them
sound over the land
like a trilling bird?

singing of your love for me,
singing what you wish could be,
singing how you need me so,
singing to me soft and low.

Regardless if these words of love
go among the missing,
I still can hear them in my mind
and so they keep me wishing
for fulfillment in my life
