Sleep Like A Rock Poem by Randy McClave

Sleep Like A Rock

My wife was mad so she sent me to the couch
She screamed that she wouldn't sleep with a grouch,
What she said made no sense to me at all
So, I headed to the couch then under the covers I did crawl.
She was ranting and raving and I don't know what for
Then I heard her slam shut our bedroom door,
That night alone we went to separate beds to sleep
I fell asleep quickly, and all she did was grumble and weep.

A week or so later I forget what she screamed or said
This time she slept on the couch and I slept in our bed,
I truly don't know what caused her actions this time
But, before I went to sleep I could hear her complain and whine.
I left our bedroom door open just in case
Then I went peacefully to sleep after saying grace,
In the morning when I woke up I was rested as all could tell
And sadly my wife looked tired and wore out, and like Hell.

A week or so later she apologized for being mean and mad
Of course when she said that, I was smiling and glad,
But, she never did tell me why she acted that way
But, I said for her every night a prayer for her I did pray.
Every night in bed she said she violently tossed and turned
As though her body and soul were violently burned,
In her mind she said she couldn't get rid of an awful thought
Then I said, whenever there is no guilt, you will always sleep like a rock.
