So Called Family Poem by Danielle Newell

So Called Family

Rain crashed against the window,
Wind howling through the leaves of the trees.
Forks of lightning brightening the skies,
Thunder is shouting and telling lies.

Bedsheets are stained with the tears i'v cried,
My heart is broken with fear and pride.
Don't want to close my eyes, or fall asleep,
But each night i do, my heart skipes a beat.

Before i sleep, i close me hands,
I pray for chance, i prey for hope.
I prey for my family who should know,
The things that happen that me make low.

I lay on my bed, and close my eyes.
Letting thoughts run through my mind.
But no matter how i try to hide,
People, i know, will be on my side.

The ropes had loosened and i could breathe,
To tell the stories i thought i had dreamed.
My family stood down and said i was wrong,
Said i was singing the same old song.

My home was broken, my world was shattered,
I look back now and see what had happened.
My tears and loneliness will stay in the past,
Because joy and happiness will be the things that last.

Great poem. I like the way you brush off all the bad to focus on the good. I really like your optimisim at the end.
