Solfas Poem by Benson Don

Solfas

They exist in the spiritual,
perceived in the physical.
They carry various messages
in the language you understand
yet still very potent.

They are the source of melodies
and ingredient for harmonies.
They make up those songs you like
even the ones you don't.

They are present in every culture
but vary in their scales.
Even "fa" and "ti" are accidental
in some scales while accidentals
are incidental in some others.

Each one stands apart
in sound, texture and warmth
only trained ears can tell.
Nevertheless confusing and same
to the perception of unlearned ears.

Together some form chords
that hit the inner man differently
sending chills down the spine.
They carry a force that compels
one to want to move the body.

So when next you hear a song
listen for the "do"
you might hear "sol"
or even "ti".
