Sometimes It Feels As If I Only Cling To You Poem by Gert Strydom

Sometimes It Feels As If I Only Cling To You

(for Annelize)

Sometimes it feels as if I hold on
to a life of many years back
with the sun hot in the clear blue sky,
to a beautiful life somewhere with you.
You do remain in my most lovely memories,
but now decades have passed,
where I try to over-bridge the years to you
and still I do adore you in the here and now
but it's like a song that Steve Hofmyer sings,
where I wait more than decades on you,
when life does ride across my career
and like a poor farmer I only have a wire-ring,
I remember the glance in your eyes and your laughter,
how I brought you roses and you did adore me.
