Song For River Glade Poem by Margaret Kollmer

Song For River Glade

(with Leonard Cohen in mind)

I told the kids my day was made
When the car turned into River Glade
Garden looking pretty thanks to Nancy
The sky above is always blue
Ha de dahs are happy too ……
Sitting on the rooftops squawkin' fancy:
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Once when I would have my way
A handsome man almost made my day
My mind got locked cos he was crocked, Oh howdy!
Like a whipoorwill on a window sill
He cried out for a small blue pill
But he stood tall…. and faced the sky so proudly:
Hallelujah, hallelujah.
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Papers read by many folk
And crosswords too and hokey poke
But who knows the answers now, oh do ya?
Rhymin' verses to the wind
And big ideas get truly binned
Cos in their heads they're Leonard's kids, I tell ya
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah.

The ladies with their knitting wool
Sit in a circle talkin' bull
Smiling cos a brand new day is dawning
And then comes Friday's happy hour
When some would wonder who they are
And who had gone away, perhaps that morning
Hallelujah, hallelujah.
Hallelujah, hallelujah.
