Soon. Poem by Veronica Powers

Soon.

Rating: 4.8

As I quietly sat on the windowsill,
Surveying the stormy night,
The sounds of rustling trees
And strong winds did little to soothe my heart.

Inexplicably,
As soon as the first drops of rain
Clattered against the glass of my window-
My mind would wander,
In a voyage of it's own.

Memories I had once thought to be forgotten,
Suddenly reappeared in the forefront of my conscience
In sequences so brilliantly life-like
That avoiding them was almost impossible.

Sleep became an unattainable prospect,
A glimmer in the distance
And my most sought after delight.
Anything to escape from my past.
