Spring Inertia Poem by George Hunter

Spring Inertia

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone,
(Song of Solomon 2: 11)

The weeds are growing rapidly also
Since the last rain so I’ll have to start a
Little weed whacking. Ah, there’s an excuse.
It’s too early this morning and the dew
Is still on the grass blades. Maybe later.

Maybe never. Maybe a natural
Environment for a while. I’d better
Just read the morning papers for a bit
To kill some time and see what happens. Yes.
Wait and see. The story of my life. Yes.

Maybe I’ll get ambitious. Maybe not.
Who cares? It won’t make any difference.
The world will still revolve around the sun
And the weeds will all remain still uncut
While life passes me by, singing the blues.
