Stumble Stones Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Stumble Stones

Stumble stones.
Memorials to those transported off to extinction
Murdered by the Nazis
People like you, like me
Housewives, brothers, dentists, dustmen

Stumble stones
Careful.You are walking on
All that's left of a person
Thename of a trail in the sky

Stumble stones
Little reminders, like a tiny rock in your shoes
But you can tip that out
You can walk away
On your two lucky feet

The named stones stay, for lives unlived
Like new bought boots not worn
Trampled underfootin the nameof racism,
Intolerance, psychopathy, ethnic cleansing
