Thade Hickey Poem by Francis Duggan

Thade Hickey

Thade Hickey was a nice and honest person one I'll remember till my dying day
By any means not old perhaps in his mid sixties though with the dead of Cullen he now lay
Throughout his life he lived by good example and to help others he went out of his way
Loved and respected by everyone who knew him and a thorough gentleman as one might say.

The World was better for him living in it and Cullen without him is a worse off place
He will be sadly missed in Gortnacreha and in Cullen Village his was a well loved face
His body only dead as each body has a time span somewhere out there his soul is living on
He is now at rest with his beloved parents His mother Mollie and his father Con.

He is one that I always will remember although I had not seen the man for years
And of him one can only have good memories he never brought to other people tears
A shy fellow he never sought the glory yet he would only help you if he could
And he will be sadly missed by all who knew him since he was one who had in him much good.

Thade Hickey he is gone from Gortnacreha and fond memories of him with us will remain
His life achievement was he was a great person we may not see the likes of him again
By those who knew him he won't be forgotten a person who is worthy of recall
In his sixties he was claimed by the Reaper the Reaper who will one day claim us all.
