It's next Friday
Is that ok?
Do you mind filling in this
Short questionnaire?
Thank you.
Your attention is
Directed to the possible
Side effects of
The procedure.
Mostly they are harmless
But some involve
Dying.
This is very rare though.
Once is enough in my mind.
Do I get any kind of
Respect whilst being
Prodded, inspected and
Entered?
Do I have to wear that
Gown that reminds
Me of the pictures from Belsen,
Washed out blue and white stripes
With no dignity?
That's harsh but
I'm scared. The
Possibilities you see.
No, you don't.
Ok then Mr O' Neill
Do you have
Any questions?
Yes. Can I be five years old again?
Because then no-one would
Think less of me
For crying.
This is great Martin. Just great. Storytelling, rhyming, humor...it has everything in it.
This is a very brave poem for a man to write - we are supposed to be so damned 'heroic' - I blame the Romans and the Greeks! (ancient ones I mean) . Thanks for your encouraging comments on my poems.
Ha, I could so have written this (heaven preserve me from intrusive internal exams..sure I've got one coming on down the line someday..hope it remains far away..hope yours comes out smilingly fine..tears or not, lol)
Having been through the horrors of surgery I can identify with this one - well described.
I really like this...again with humour but pathos too....very good.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
