The Bird That Was Too Afraid To Fly Poem by Paula Glynn

The Bird That Was Too Afraid To Fly

There once was a bird too afraid to fly
She didn't know how to relate to others
Yet she could never say goodbye
And every night she would cry and cry
For she was a bird too afraid to fly.

She would see others through a computer screen
Every night she would dream and dream
Every nightmare becoming obscene
Yet a nugget of gold
Began to take hold:

She could raise her wings
And soar through paradise
Where everyone knew her and loved her
And need never look twice
Her bird wings taking her through paradise.

And she learnt to believe in herself
She learnt how to gain valuable wealth
She took take her life and steer
At her party she would happily cheer
Knowing her bird wings brought her here:

Here to a never ending paradise
Where magnificent birds take full flight
Through the blue, blue sky
Knowing deeply how and why
They are able to fly,

For they are free
They cure all that is insane
And yet - somehow - make the mad free:
Free to paint colourful rainbows
And view birds soaring through paradise,

Where once fear held her down
Now she does no longer frown
For she is a bird of paradise
Who wears the heavenly kingdom crown
And know what she will always know:

That her wings are vast
That her wings take a chance
And rejoice with hope
And view life with scope
Having once been a bird too afraid to fly.
