The Dark Poem by Gregory Corban Jr.

The Dark

Closer and closer it comes, it makes me so scared, I just want to run!
Mama and Papa say I could be freed, if I just overlooked this horrible fiend.
But so mighty and great it overwhelms me, an adult doesn't know how this five year old sees.
Every night I go sleepless, stuck in its presence, only the sun can rid of this menace.
Big sis always gives me a tease, but I tell them if I had a nightlight this monster would be a breeze.
I see it in movies; I see it on TV, man fighting this beast that's just how it has to be.
It surrounds me, I scream at the sound of my very own wheeze, so Mom; don't turn off the light please!
