The Eve Of The Last Day

Rating: 5.0

Wouldn't you know it:
just after the Third,
when I said to a poet-critic-cricket chum
that the 2017 India-Australia four Test series
would not be defined by its collapses
(three after two)
because there wasn't one in the Third,
there was a defining one in the Fourth -
and a hope there'd be one more.

I won a house on Australia's collapse in the Second.
I lost it on its stand in the Third.
I won it again on its second innings in the Fourth;
and I'll probably lose it again
hoping India will lose 10 for 80
on the last morning of that Fourth
under the Himalayas,
Dharamsala,
India north.

Cricket is a sport with twists and turns - and ensuring you present a wicket that is of benefit for the home side. What's happened to Warner, can't play a turning ball?

An objective and fair look at the whole series. Who did actually win the Fourth Test? I like the last 4 lines, which take the reader to India, near the Himalayas- adds excitement as if you were there in that stadium.

(continued) ... but a few years ago i DID see a cricket game being played in our small northern California city park. i think the players were all Indian picnickers, Asian Indians, not Native Americans, maybe from the much larger city of Eureka, north of us. i watched some of the young female players for a while; then i got bored and walked away. bri :)

(continued) ... a house? an actual live-in-with-at-least-one-bathroom house? ? we have black crickets in our basement. i don't suppose...................? maybe this poem needs to be read only by members of the British Commonwealth? .....of which i don't believe 'my country', The United States of America, belongs. critic ..i find it unfortunate that a Google source give two, somewhat-opposing, definitions of critic! why can't languages be 'easier' to use? ? well, i guess Douglas wouldn't have as much fun then. (continued) ..
