The Facade Poem by Melody Paxton

The Facade

No, not mine. His.
Like the "others" he messaged me
Pursued me
Singled me out
Said I was "different"
Said we were "more than friends"

At first I was cautious
But aren't we all?
Women have stupid feelings
Shallow thoughts
Needs that trap

His fist full of heaven was a lie
He had no gold to give
Not even a single nugget of wisdom
Chant and pray and bend and bow
But a godly man does not entice
He does not tempt
He will not violate … IF he is truly ‘godly'

So I bought the lie
Then I sold the farm
Then I boarded a plane
Now I am living in hell

He was a lie
He was just a playboy online
He got what he wanted
Now he wants another

He wears a facade
But you'll never care
With looks, and words
He can cause an angel to sin
He is the lie I wish I had never told
