The Insecure One Poem by Francis Duggan

The Insecure One

A self conceited fellow who does like to gloat
Of his marvellous holiday with his wife and children in a luxurious houseboat
One might he is one who likes to rub it in
That he is one man who is born to win
On us under achievers he likes to look down
Us battlers who live on the poor side of the Town
But despite his material success it does seem to me
That he is one who is haunted by insecurity
That he has to boast of his successful life
Of his marvellous children and his beautiful wife
To a material World he can only relate
Though the very wealthy club he cannot infiltrate
And though his dream is to mix with society's top brass
He has to remain in the aspirational class.
