The Maiden In The Tower Part Iii The Dragon Ring Poem by Juan Olivarez

The Maiden In The Tower Part Iii The Dragon Ring

The ring of the dragon the sorceror possessed,
And it could melt any substance known.
By archaic wizards it had been blessed,
And forged in a fire of dragon bones.

It opened all doors and destroyed all walls,
You just had to wish it in your mind.
And when in great danger it would emit fireballs,
The enchanted ring one of a kind.

The sorceror fleeing from a knights furious wrath,
Had lost the ring as he southward fled.
But never again would he find his path,
For as he approached the ring ceased glowing red.

A beauteous thing with a mind of it's own,
It hated the evil sorceror that held it bound.
For a thousand years in the field it remained sown,
Until one day by a farm boy it was found.

The soul of the ring, if a soul it could be,
Was good and hated the sorcerors evil deeds.
It longed for a virtuous man, and to be free,
As it lay covered with dirt, among the weeds.

When the farm boy approached, the magic ring,
It began to glow, with it's dragon fire.
It pulsed in his hand, and to his soul did sing,
And filled the young heart, with courage and desire.

Into his young mind it sent many thoughts,
Of the mystic dragon power of the ring.
And how to the tower the maiden had been brought,
To his heart and mind it did fairly sing.

Pulsing in the farm boy's hand it revealed,
The powers that it could bring to bear.
So that the young man's mind fairly reeled,
While in his hand he held it standing there.

Confident that it had found, the master it had sought,
The ring made the boy's heart strong.
To prepare him for the battle to be fought,
And made him ready to avenge all wrongs.

It molded itself to fit, the finger of the hand,
And like a compass turned the boy north.
And pointed the way across the land,
To where was the test of his true worth.
