The Novelty Of Love Dies Poem by APPHIA GARCIA

The Novelty Of Love Dies

Rating: 5.0

They say love never fails
But are we failing at love?

Last year when I saw you
I could not hold focus.
My body twitched, my palms sweat.
Last year when I saw you
In each other's eyes we steered.
We smiled without knowing
Our bodies shivered
But our faces were ever glowing.

Today, today when I see you its a blank steer.
No rush of emotions, everything creates a distraction.
My focus strays.
Today when I see you my body goes numb,
I'm unmoved and untouched
Smiles have been replaced by grins
A stiffening of the gums.

Last year when I hugged you
I could have felt the rate of your heartbeat pounding through your chest
Last year when I hugged you
I could have felt the chemistry flowing through my veins
My body was finally at rest.

Today, today when I hugged you
How impersonal it felt.
The mechanical embrace created no connection.
I know it was not heartfelt.
Today when I hug you muscle contract.
Our love was evident
Eye witnesses we use to attract.

Today, today our love is not the same.
With the change in situations,
Derivation of lies or simply the passing of time
The novelty of love dies.
It dies, it dies, it dies.
The novelty of love
Dies.
