The Parting Poem by John Leroy Maxwell

The Parting

Rating: 1.0

They strolled the lane together
The sky was studded with stars
They reached the gate together,
and he lifted up the bars
The meeting was so sudden
The parting was so sad
She gave her own sweet life for him,
the only one she had
She raised her brown eyes to him
But there's nothing between them now
For he was just a hired hand,
and she a Jersey Cow
