The Penny Dropped Poem by Emma Jane Rae

The Penny Dropped

Rating: 5.0

You took everything I said to you,
And made it part of your act,
But sometimes I'd pull you up in your lies,
And suddenly you'd back track,
Oh how easy I was to fool,
To pull the wool over my eyes,
I bet you sat there laughing,
Everytime you watched me cry,
Was I really part of this nasty plan?
Just to build me up and watch me fall?
How do you find it so easy to give nothing,
When I gave you my all?
All those nights I stayed awake
To calm you of your fears,
Does it not break your heart a little,
To know you caused these tears?
Why pick me? To waste more of my time,
Don't you think I've suffered enough?
You told me the world can only turn,
If it is shown only love,
And that is what I done to you,
I gave you everything I had,
You have replayed me in the most dreadful way,
By making me feel so sad,
So when those days came,
And you where skipping flying your red flags,
I should have walked away then,
But I didn't I followed all the zig zags,
Like all those night you got smashed,
And drank another bottle dry,
I would tell you it upset me,
And you would apologise,
But a week later we'd be there again,
As I cleaned your duck up off the floor,
I should have told you to pack your bags,
And kicked you out of the door,
But I didn't, I believe in second chances,
Or 3 or 4 or 5,
But there had to come a point,
When your not living, you just survive,
Now I can clearly see it,
The penny has finally dropped,
The day my heart started to love me,
Was the day that your heart stopped!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

In this poem again we see a heart trying to grapple with itself, and with betrayal….
