The Pick Poem by Joshua Hudson

The Pick

I asked a man of God
What God wanted for my life
Expecting to receive a great promotion
Instead of words of favor being poured upon my life
I was humbled by a pure and simple notion
He said, "God wants to take a pick and slowly chip away..."
I said, "Until my life's perfected... fit to be displayed? "
"No, " he said. "For God to live through you it will take death."
God wants to chip your life away until there's nothing left
