Transcend Poem by Joshua Hudson

Transcend

When I look at the eyes of the girl across the street I see a piece of me
When I look at the man behind the checkout stand I feel his pain
How pushing buttons every day is slowly driving him insane
When I look at the world I see a scheme
Billions of people playing out their roles in endless routine
But when I look at Jesus I see a difference
I see a purpose
I see a means and an end wrapped up in a friend
When I look at Jesus I Transcend

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote the poem Transcend after going through the checkout line at the supermarket and realizing the monotony of the job. I have nothing against hard work and a teller position, but really it opened my eyes to the monotony of much of life. Without anything transcendent to set our eyes upon, the monotony can be stifling in the least. BTW I really love Jesus.

I am an atheist, but see the listlessness in the common man's eyes too. Stuck in a rut by society's mandates and not appreciating the myriad joys our short lives are provided
