The Queen's Thank You To P.M. John Poem by Francis Duggan

The Queen's Thank You To P.M. John

Received a telegram this afternoon 'it read your majesty supreme'
The People of Australia still want you as their Queen
My family not receiving good publicity of late
And this great news from Down Under give us cause to celebrate.

And though I don't want to seem ungrateful I find it hard to understand
Why you still want me as your Head of State in your remote foreign Land
When you could have had one of your own an Aussie born and bred
But I feel quite chuffed nonetheless that you chose me instead.

I'm not the Queen of All of Ireland not that I really care
But it seems strange that in Australia you still want me over there
For the Republic of Ireland is a sister Land fifty miles from our shore
And Australia is so far away twelve thousand miles or more.

To the Australian Prime Minister Mr Howard I must say thank you John
You convinced the Aussies that without me life might not carry on
You and Janette have been so loyal to our British Monarchy
And soon you'll have my Charles as king as your special gift
from me.

Received a telegram this afternoon and it has really made my day
You still have me as your Head of State in Australia far away
My family have been receiving bad publicity of late
And this great news from 'Down Under' we ought to celebrate.
