The Real Me Poem by Kelsi Pope

The Real Me

I want to stand in front of you,
bare.
Stripped of every rumor,
of every lie.
Of all your misconceptions of me.
Even of your very first impression.

I want to show you
me.
The real me,
that very few know of.
I don't want to be scared.
I want to know
I'm safe.

Laying everything on the table.
Nothing to hide.
No lies,
only the truth.
If I did this,
would you love me
just like yesterday?

My friend, here's your chance to ask,
anything at all.
No longer covered by a mask.
Here I am,
bare and pure.
Standing here,
for you to see.

So now you know.
You've seen everything.
Heard all my stories.
Do you dare act like I'm the same girl
that I was just hours ago?

Or do you turn your back?
Running away like those before.
Be sure to know,
that this wasn't easy for me.
I broke down all the walls.
Peeled off the mask.
Just so you couls see
the real me.
