The Tee Shirt Poem by david moonlight

The Tee Shirt

Rating: 5.0

AS i was walking through. the local super market of all places- my eyes glanced upon-a very brightly colored tie dyed tee shirt. Being the curious person that i am- I walked closer to see what was written on- it First of all what caught my eye- was the age of the person wearing it- he could not have been more than 16 or 17- I didn; t know kids these days would even wear them because it was a 60's thing you know- As we all know as parents- that most kids today rebel against anything we did as children. (smiling) - After getting a closer look- i read what was written in very vivid colors- The R.I.P stuck out in the largest of all the letters- with a name and a birth date and a day of death.- it read Gary born 1992 died 2008- he gave his life for his peeps-Now i am not sure but i am willing to bet that he did not die over in some forien country protecting our freedom. Don; t get me wrong i have no disrespect in honoring a lost life- but how the lfe was lost- is- what makes me think- Last month a few hundred yards from my house the sound of gunshots filled the air the sound so clear it echoed for about 30 seconds - It was Memorial Day- a day when we honor lives lost in war or service to their country. a very noble way to honor our family and friends or is it? As my mind started wandering i could only think of the sadness- that the teeshirt represented-IT represented a world of war that has no meaning makes no sence- and has very little to due with the honor i knew as a child- every night ---i am sure that if you went outside and listened well enough you could hear gunshots filling the air- no matter what town or city you live in they are there.. and again if you listen close enough you might catch the echo of some parent crying- and shouting out loud why GOD why did this happen- why did my baby have to die- this way- as the tears ran down my face i was thinking of this- no child or adult should have to die this way- it makes no sense- and it really doesn; t have anything to do with honor as we know it- life today is not like it once was- remember peace signs and flower children and yes tie dyed tee shirts- with the two fingers sticking up for the sign of peace- today it is more of the one finger act- (The Blame Game) _being played out- in the minds of many- so i ask who is the blame? what is the blame? or is there really anyone or anything to blame? .All i am really sure of is this-- Gods love will always be stronger than the(Blame Game) -- BUT - we really have to put our trust in him-and know deep in our hearts-that these senseless acts of honor serve no purpose- other than making tears run down the face or faces of the people left behind- SO again i get on my knees and pray and ask GOD- that when it becomes my turn to talk to my kids which i hope is every day- That know matter what- i pray for the strength- _(TO TAKE THE SHOT) and say what i have to instead of of hearing one ring out in the night.S
