The Ugly Truth Poem by Chelsea Palma

The Ugly Truth

There once was a girl so small, so frail,
Who couldn't see the world for what it truly was
As if her eyes were covered by a veil
Unable to see its beauty, unable to see its flaws.

'I know I've already said it,
Keep chasing me and you'll regret it.
I'm not who you think I am,
I'm not who you wish me to be.'
Whispered the voice beyond the veil

'I don't wish for you to be anything but yourself.
Its been a little lonely here all by myself.
There are some goods parts of you
An there are some bad ones too
But the fact of the matter is they create you.
In all your glory, its just more for me to cherish and love.'

'I'll hold out my arm and lend you my hand,
So that maybe you can find the strength to stand.

'Open up your heart
And with it my eyes.
Give me a promise,
Never to fool me again with a veil or disguise.

The moment you see me,
And look into my face,
You'd have forgotten your fears
And you'd know that here, you are safe.'

I love this poem, and the meaning behind it. My favorite part is the second stanza, I know I've already said it, Keep chasing me and you'll regret it. I'm not who you think I am, I'm not who you wish me to be.' Whispered the voice beyond the veil
