The Ultimate Fact

THE ULTIMATE FACT:

The ultimate fact:
‘We all die’
It’s no secret
Everybody knows
No matter how great or how small
How much a success or a failure
‘We all die’
And it’s hard to bear
Knowing it
Especially as one grows older and closer to it
So many friends have gone
So many people I cared about it
And I am growing closer
Closer to the ultimate fact
We all die
And soon I will die
And then who will be here to listen to
The songs of those I loved to be with
The stories of those who have been good to me?

Poem of the Day

poet Algernon Charles Swinburne

I hid my heart in a nest of roses,
Out of the sun's way, hidden apart;
In a softer bed than the soft white snow's is,
Under the roses I hid my heart.
