The Words Of The Poet Poem by Francis Duggan

The Words Of The Poet

The words he has penned will long outlive the poet
In decades from now a student of poetry will quote
A poem or two or three of the great
Good work on it never has a use by date,
The poet sad to say to the reaper has gone
But the words of the poet are destined to live on
And the legend of the dreamer in death only grow
And the river the poet sang of ever does flow
Through woodlets and by Towns and by many a hedgerow
On it's ocean bound journey and so much the poet did know
Of the Natural World and the poet did write
Of moonlight and sunlight and the stars of night
The breath of life from the poet it forever has gone
But the words of the poet are destined to live on.
