Theft Poem by Arjun Sharma

Food is a staple for all
Hunger is something in front of which everything would fall
Buildings of principles and morals would be demolished in a day
If food and man are kept away
But such was the compulsion of a child
Who was hungry as if left alone in the wild
His mother wouldn't give him anything to eat
As what was left was their own body and meat
No wonder the child would be tempted in the market
For he would think of stealing the food and putting it in his basket
And so he did
But he was caught stealing it
And so he was handed over to the police
Who asked him why he didn't purchased it
To which the boy replied that he had no money
This is something which the police found to be quite funny
They mocked the kid for being poor
And told him he belonged to the sewer
They took him to the Judge
Who was a kind and a noble person
And soon understood the fudge
He reprimanded the police for mocking the child
He wanted them to tone down their behaviour and be a little mild
For the child was of a tender age
Who couldn't be expected to be a sage
All he had experienced was a raw feeling of hunger
And he couldn't be said to have committed a blunder
For the Judge knew what was to be done
As in this case poverty had won
He gave the child some food to eat
And allowed him to rest on a seat
He then let the child go away
As he would always remember this day.
