Then She Poem by Michelle Sam

Then She

She went to sleep with eyes dark as night,
Blood for tears, and a spirit of fright
A bruised heart where love used to be,
A soul that's beat down, but others couldn't see,
Then she thought

How could anyone hurt the one they love
You know the one they said was sent from above,
You know the one they gave their whole heart too
You know the one that said I love you,
Then she remembered

The pain from a punch, and the ache from a shove
And wanting to fly away like a dove
And how she wished love hadn't been blind
And to think what was love had been so unkind
Then she felt

A gripping desire to awaken but couldn't
As blood came from places that it shouldn't
Surrounded by a room a hurricane went through
Encased in a house of emotions so blue
Then she heard

Sirens so loud that it could wake the dead
People scrambling around just to see the dread
Children crying for a mother so dear
Others whispering in each ones ear
Then she saw

A body covered in a sheet of white
While the one she loved was hidden from sight
A beautiful life that had come to an end
A life with fences it would never mend
Then she learned

Life is too short for it to be abused
Love yourself and never be misused,
Keep God in your life, and prayer as your center,
Cause you deserve the best and this you must remember
