What Would Your Poem Say? Poem by Michelle Sam

What Would Your Poem Say?

What would your poem say?
Would you write about the things that boggle the mind?
Or would you write about the love of God so divine
Would you write words of encouragement that eases a heart?
Or would you write about a caged up spirit that can't depart

What would your poem say?
Would you write about things that cut your essence to the core?
Or would you write like Poe with sadness forever more
Would you write like a coke commercial, and wish the world harmony?
Or would you write about equality and self love like Nikki Giovanni

What would your poem say?
Would you write about a painting on a wall that pierces your soul
Or would you write about your secret passions left untold
Would you write about the simple things of life in your vernacular?
Or would you write about the greatness of a person so spectacular

What would your poem say?
Would you write with your voice in a spoken word beat?
Or would you write with a romantic allure of love so sweet
Would you write about the pains and ills of the world today?
Or would you write about yourself getting in your own way

What would your poem say?
Would you write a poem of lyrics that soothes the savage beast?
Or would you write about the wars real or imagined that won't cease
Would you write a few short lines of a Japanese Haiku?
Or would you write about the monsters in your life that you slew

Poetry is our hearts speaking out on lines of paper
It eases our souls, then moves us on our way
It leaves us a sweetness our spirits can savor
So just what would your Poem Say?
