Larisa Rzhepishevska

(Odessa, Ukraine)

There are many..., There are a few...

There are many of those with whom you can go to bed,
There are so a few with whom you’d like to wake up,
And in the morning to greet the day that’s ahead,
With a smile to ask your love if it’s already a sunup.

There are many of those with whom you can just live,
Drink in the morning coffee, talk and argue or debate,
But … there are just a few to whom you can believe
And in every moments of life to be always straight.

There are so a few with whom you’d like to dream,
To watch the stars in the darkness of the night,
To be with your loved one in the same stream,
And never think who was really wrong or right.

There are so a few with whom you can keep silent,
Who understands you with a semi glance or a word,
Who knows that each heard word is just brilliant
As from the mouth of your darling it was said.

You so easily meet and… without pain you part,
With ease on the heart, just because…, and it is sad that…
There are so many of those with whom you can go to bed,
There are so a few with whom you would like to wake up.

and it is sad that… i just want to make sure you meant to type sad, not said. either word could do well there. personally, i don't think it is sad UNLESS you fail to find the person(s) who makes YOU happy/content in life.
again, on a personal note, i don't think i would mind waking up with anyone with whom i was comfortable going to bed AS LONG AS i could be first into the bathroom in the morning!
i enjoyed the early rhyming, but the un-rhymed parts worked well for me also. here in america [home of the brave, as the song says before baseball games] i have spoken english 'all my life'. if you are curious, i will tell you of a few very minor 'changes' i would make in your english. it's just an offer. it's a nice poem with some interesting observations, phrased nicely. thanks for sharing. and thanks for translating some russian works to english. i'll probably never read any of them, but i think it is a 'shame' that all people can't speak the same language, so at least translations are a help. :) (Report) Reply

It's a beautiful poem! You have drawn the difference so beautifully!
'Who knows that each heard word is just brilliant
As from the mouth of your darling it was said.'
This is a brilliant couplet showing respect to love and the loved one.
'There are so many of those with whom you can go to bed,
There are so a few with whom you would like to wake up.'
These are the two facts to start the poem with, and also to end. (Report) Reply

    Excellent Poem.

So true, we have both lust and love.
Empty desires, or a slowly kindle fire.
Patients and hard work, or that which is easily forgotten.
    Blind are these moments.
Thought to be so counter productive.
Yet we can't not help but be tempted by the bliss even if it is only temporary. (Report) Reply

Poem of the Day

poet Algernon Charles Swinburne

I hid my heart in a nest of roses,
Out of the sun's way, hidden apart;
In a softer bed than the soft white snow's is,
Under the roses I hid my heart.
