There Is A War Poem by Suman Pal

There Is A War

There is -
A rain of shelling and cry over the white land.
A bloodshed beneath the fleeing feet of innocent girls and children.
A venomous black bullet inside the wombs of million mothers.
A fear behind the mind of bold and submissive soldiers.
A tear of uncertainty below the hearts of society:
Of present and future.
Of life and death.
Of hope and despair.
Of belief and distrust.

Where is the peace?
Only a slave of power.
Where is the humanity?
Only a fake promise.

One Strength trying to ensure its security,
Bleeding its own blood seamlessly.
How Heartless Your Power inside the Missile!

Another Weak, bearing a Patriotic Flag,
Tring the same on a Black road.

Other Guile, lurking behind the shadow,
Maneuvering the Nations.

Is emigration the only path to tread?
For these fear stricken starving.
Everyone is silent.
Surely, it's the Power of Power.

This Magnitude, thirsty for life,
Crossing river Dnieper to Dniester,
All full to the brim, cold and icy,
Turns blackish red and stain.
Oh, what a cruel destiny!
For you, Homeless Refugees,
There is no water to live a life.
There is,
Everywhere,
Deadly heat of burning fire.
Smothering of black smoke.
Coldness of ruinous ashes.

There is a war -
A smell of gunpowder
A siren for aerial bombing.
A groan coming from the rubble.
A wail cascading down the stifling eyes.
A vile scent of burnt corpse and stale blood.
A massive destruction of history, culture and ethics.

There is a life.
There must be a life:
A life to live.
A life to breathe.
A life to laugh.
A life to progress.
There must be,
In this world of ours.
